Advisory Board of the Melanoma Network

The Advisory Board is made up of 17 representatives of professional colleges, specialist melanoma organisations, consumer groups, government and non-government organisations involved in the care of melanoma in NSW.

The major objectives of the Advisory Board are to:

  • Through advice and guidance, bring a range of skills and expertise to the Network’s projects
  • Provide a conduit through which organisations’ members can inform or be informed of, Network activities.
  • Facilitate a cooperative approach to the care of melanoma

The Board meets biannually. The Board can co-opt other members from time to time, if required and has access to administrative assistance through the Coordinating Unit of the Network.

Professor Christopher G Milross MB BS MD, FRANZCR (Chair)

Chris is currently Head of Radiation Oncology in The Sydney Cancer Center at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. 

A graduate of UNSW Chris was an intern and resident at St George Hospital before training in Radiation Oncology at POWH.  Thereafter a Fellow in Experimental Radiation Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas.

Clinically Chris has been active in the disciplines of Head and Neck Oncology and Gynaecological Oncology.  He was a member of the executive of the ANZH&NS 2003 – 2008, and the executive of the ANZGOG 2006-2008.  In Jan 2009 Chris commenced as Dean of The Faculty of Radiation Oncology Royal Australian and New Zealand College of radiologists.  He has endeavored to maintain an interest in basic and translation research in the areas of drug-radiation combinations with a particular focus on in vivo experimental systems.

 

 
John Thompson   Dr T. Michael Hughes (Deputy Chair)

Dr Hughes is a surgical oncologist at Westmead Hospital and the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga. Dr Hughes trained at Westmead Hospital and completed a Fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London in 1999. He returned to Australia to take up the position of lecturer at the Sydney Melanoma Unit. In July 2000 he returned to Westmead to establish a Surgical Oncology Service. The service manages melanoma, soft tissue tumours (sarcoma) and advanced non-melanoma skin cancer. Dr Hughes has a private practice, Northern Surgical Oncology, based at the Sydney Adventist Hospital (The “San”), that also includes the management of breast cancer. Dr Hughes chairs a number of multidisciplinary oncology teams and has been very involved with committee work with the NSW Cancer Institute, including the roles of Deputy Chair then Chair of the Melanoma Oncology Group.
