Patient pathways and experience of care
Aim:
As part of the wider patterns of care study, the Melanoma Network, in collaboration with other senior melanoma researchers, is conducting a study which surveys patients on their:
- Pathways through the health system
- Satisfaction with care received including quality, access, coordination, safety, information, and support services
- Suggestions for improvement of health services for melanoma
Methods:
300 patients diagnosed with melanoma over a one year period and identified by the melanoma patterns of care study will be contacted initially by staff at the NSW Central Cancer Registry and then subsequently by members of the Melanoma Network. Patients will be asked to undergo an interview which will map out their pathways of care, establish their satisfaction with various steps of the pathway and obtain suggestions on how to improve care.
Status:
Ethics approval has been obtained and procedures within the NSW Central Cancer Registry have been finalized. Patient recruitment will commence in March 2009.
