Melanoma Patterns of Care (MPOC)

Melanoma Network staff are collaborators on this study funded primarily by the NSW Cancer Institute and co-authored by senior melanoma researchers. This project has also received some funding from the Network.

Aims:

  • To estimate the proportion of melanoma cases in NSW managed according to current best-practice recommendations
  • To assess the extent to which this proportion varies across the State
  • To identify factors associated with the observed variation
  • To provide more detailed information about patterns of care in a region with a melanoma incidence that is substantially higher than the Statewide rate

Methods:

  • Identification of all new notifications of melanoma in NSW residents received by the NSW Central Cancer Registry between 1st October 2006 and 30th September 2007
  • Survey of the doctors who provided care to the sample of patients

Status:
Data collection phase has been completed. Analysis is underway.
