Recurrence of melanoma in NSW

This study was funded in large part by the Cancer Institute NSW as part of their NSW Oncology Groups support grants. It was designed and conducted and partially funded by the Melanoma Network.

Aims:
To assess the feasibility of measuring the recurrence of melanoma through the NSW Central Cancer Registry (NSWCCR).

Methods:
The study is divided into three phases, (1) the cross-validation of recurrences of melanoma in patients from the Sydney Melanoma Unit (SMU) with information notified to the NSWCCR, (2) development of a process to identify recurrences using existing NSWCCR information and (3) a pilot measurement of melanoma recurrence in a randomly selected cohort of participants notified to the NSWCCR.

Status:
Completed. The study was presented at the COSA conference in 2008. A report on the study and its results have been provided to the NSW Cancer Institute with recommendations for next steps in the measurement of recurrence in NSW. PDF version of the final project report is available by clicking here.
